Colnago Bikes Overview

Colnago commenced operation in 1954 by Ernesto Colnago in Milano, Italy. Having an interest in cycling (which would eventually have him land a spot as a road cyclist himself before injuring himself), Ernesto decided to venture away from his families farming history and instead headed in the direction of an industry he was passionate about - bicycles. He initially started out as an apprentice bike mechanic, where he progressed to taking on the role of head bicycle mechanic for Molteni which was the team of Eddy Merckx whilst he was in the stage of becoming and up-and-coming road cyclist.

In the 1960’s through to the 1970’s, Colnago were renowned in creating custom bikes and having a strong history together, was even ridden by Tour De France world champion Eddy Merckx.
