Gear Shifters

A bicycle gear shifter is a component used to change the derailleur or hub gearing to the desired gear ratio. Gear shifters do this by increasing or decreasing the tension of the gear cable which in turn adjusts the gearing mechanism. Gear shifters are mounted on the down tube of the frame (on older bikes), on the handlebars, or at the ends of triathlon bars. The controls are mounted so that the right shifter controls the rear derailleur and the left shifter controls the front derailleur.
