Bicycle Accessory Types/Stems
Stems
StemsThe stem is the component on a bicycle that connects the handlebars to the steerer tube of the bicycle fork. Sometimes called a goose neck a stem's design belongs to either a quill or threadless system. Quill stems are inserted into the steerer of the fork and use a screw and a wedge to lock it into place. This system is mainly used on older bikes whereas a threadless system uses a clamp which slides over the fork steerer and then clamps into place. |
