Le Tour De France is without a doubt the biggest annual sporting event in the world. It first took place on July 1st 1903, where sixty brave pioneers set out to accomplish what was seen impossible, ride from Nantes to Paris, a 471km ride in six huge stages.
As time went on Le Tour De France evolved and only a few short years after the historic ride 1903, the Alps where implemented into the circuit. Changes where continuously made for the better, the distance grew, a yellow shirt was awarded for stage winners, brand name teams where implemented and the acceptance of all cyclists from all countries.
The tour was stopped for 7 years during the late 30s and early 40s during World War II, but having survived through the heart aches that tore so many great nations apart, Le Tour De France has become an historic event that is loved my all.
Le Tour De France has turned what was once seen as the impossible to the possible, breeding a lot of champions in the process. These champion cyclists such as Jacques Anquetil, Eddy Merckx, Raymond Poulidor, Bernard Hinault, Miguel Indurain and Lance Armstrong will go down in history as true cycling greats.
Le Tour De France will continue to unite countries together and its riders will stand out as a symbol that anything is possible.
