The 5 Gippsland Rail Trails Cycle Tour takes in all of the Rail Trails in Gippsland.
What an adventure! You your friends and your family can cycle along the coast, across the plains through the forests and into the wilds all on Rail Trails far away from the traffic. You will cycle on the Bass Coast, Great Southern, Gippsland Plains, East Gippsland, and Grand Ridge Rail Trails. Every one has a flavor of its own and each are very different.
Day 1 and Day 2 Bass Coast Rail Trail + Philip Island Cycle Paths 47 km 2D 2N
Your first 2 days will be cycling the Philip Island cycle paths and Bass Coast Rail Trail. The Bass Coast Rail Trail is the only seaside rail trail in Australia. It has spectacular coastal views and you will cycle over the amazing Bourne Trestle Bridge over 100 years old. This section of your tour finishes at the Wonthaggi State Coal Mine where you can get underground and experience the life of a coal miner in the early 1900's.
Day 3 and Day 4 Great Southern Rail Trail 72 km 2D 2N
On Days 3 and 4 you will cycle the amazing Great Southern Rail Trail with 72km of of scenic cycling through quirky little country towns that time forgot. Except that now they are the home of art galleries, cafes, markets and fresh local produce. With views of Wilsons Promontory National Park, Quiet Corner and green rolling farming country with lots of dairy cows.
Day 5 Grand Ridge Rail Trail 26km 1D 1N
Day 5 is dedicated to the Grand Ridge Rail Trail a pretty little rail trail from the town of Mirboo North to Boolarra and back again. It starts with a fabulous breakfast right in town and finishes at the Mirboo North Grand Ridge Brewery and its range of craft beers.
Day 6 and Day 7 Gippsland Plains Rail Trail 63 km 2D 2N
Day 6 and 7 will see you cycle the Gippsland Plains Rail Trail staying at the little township of Tinamba just behind the Tinamba Hotel an award winning Pub of the Year and Best Regional Restaurant. The trail passes through high quality dairy country, and offers panoramic views of the Great Dividing Range to the north, and sweeping 3600 views across the Great Gippsland Plains.
Day 8 Day 9 Day 10 East Gippsland Rail Trail 120 km 3D 2N
Days 8, 9 and 10 takes you along the East Gippsland Rail Trail full of amazing trestle bridges that loom out of the bush and are a testament to engineering of times gone by. As you cycle you will have the chance to see many native animals, pass little villages and cycle over the rivers. With a side trip to enjoy Lakes Entrance and its lovely beaches you will find lots to love about this rail trail.
