This cycle, in beautiful green southern Gippsland, is perfect for a weekend getaway. This 2 night, 2 day tour allows you to escape the city and relax, at your pace.
This very challenging 2D 2N Great Southern Getaway Grand Ridge ride is on quiet roads through a great mix of hilly country with barely a flat spot. You will cycle into the hilly Strzelecki Ranges and enjoy hill climbs on dirt roads, so be prepared for rough surfaces. It is a fun and challenging ride for experienced riders who like to be self sufficient. With 80km per day and over 2000m of climbing you will be ready for a rest when you finish. Or at least you will be able to sit still at your desk for a few days!
There will be little food and water on your way so be prepared with at least 3 liters of water and food for your cycle. When bush fire danger days are forecast we will give you an option to change the date of your tour or we will change your route.
Day One will take you from Leongatha over the amazing rolling hills of Gippsland, with fabulous sweeping views, to Mirboo North home to the Mirboo North Brewery and bakery. Enjoy lunch and in the afternoon take off through the beautiful Turtons Creek Valley and the ferny Ameys Track to finish your day in Foster. This ride is 80km and has 1060m of climbing.
Day 2: Enjoy your breakfast in Foster and fill up your water bottles and lunch bag as there will be no food or water until you finish in Port Welshpool. Today is all about the climb to the Grand Ridge Road from Foster. The Grand Ridge Road is wonderful cycle and by far our favorite. It is an amazing, ferny, rolling ridge with great views to the north and south. Love the huge trees and forests, listen for the lyrebirds and maybe spot a wombat. Cruise down to Port Welshpool and finish with a beautiful view of Wilsons Promontory National Park from the recently restored Long Jetty.
Enjoy a well earned rest at the Port Welshpool pub as we come to collect you and bring you back to Leongatha for your trip home.
