Randall Fraser is a cyclist on a mission.
He’s one of thousands around Australia who will be jumping on the bike for the 2015 Ride to Conquer Cancer. It’s a cause close to the Toowoomba local’s heart. With five tumours in the bowel, Randall was given six – 12 months to live. That was in June 2011. He’s defying doctors’ prognosis, but the disease has left a heavy toll. He’s had nearly half his liver removed, 140 lymph nodes and had a colectomy (removal of the large bowel) and now wears a permanent bag.
But tragically cancer is an all-too familiar face within the Fraser family. Randall has lost one family member to brain cancer, two members to breast cancer, and one to bowel cancer.
It’s no wonder Randall wants to wipe cancer from the planet.
Inspired by fellow local Clive Bergoher and his incredible generosity, Randall is convinced he can help do his bit to conquer cancer, and so he’s setting off in August 2015 on a mass participation two-day, 200km riding event. He’ll use his time up until August to not only raise funds for Ride to Conquer Cancer, but to train for the physical challenge ahead!
The Ride to Conquer Cancer rolls out nationwide in 2015, and supports key cancer research centres specific to each state.
We’ve all lost loved ones to cancer. If Randall’s story makes you want to get out there to raise money whilst spending quality time in the saddle, then Ride to Conquer Cancer is an incredible way to make that happen.
