Anna Meares wins Gold
Just a day after waving the flag for the 2014 Commonwealth Games Australian team, track cycling megastar Anna Meares has won gold in the Women’s 500 Time Trial.
It marked the first gold win for the Australian team, and Anna’s fifth gold medal overall, making her the most successful Commonwealth Games track cyclist (Kathy Watt has four gold medals).
Meares left the opening games ceremony intent on getting a quality night’s sleep to arrive fresh at the Chris Hoy velodrome. She was given a bike at the exit so she could roll back to her accommodation rather than walk.
Meares now has a day of rest before returning to defend her gold in the women’s sprint.
Australia’s medal tally currently sits at four golds, three silvers and four bronzes.
