Australia's Hottest Bike Shops - Cyc'd For Bikes

CYC'd for Bikes is a pretty perfect name for the store as store owner Jaaron and the boys simply love cycling, and everything about it. When we caught up with the guys, Jaaron had just got back from a trip over to France to watch the Tour and throw his new Defy Advanced SL0 down a few mountains.

It was so clear to us that the guys here are laid back and just really good blokes; there's no B.S. or negative vibe that might leave people intimidated. The guys are super welcoming and we're very confident in saying that anyone could walk into CYC'd for Bikes and have an enjoyable experience regardless of whether they walk out with a shiny new ride or not.

Front desk

CYC'd for Bikes is the biggest Giant dealer in Queensland and one of the biggest in Australia, and is only a short five minute drive from Brisbane's CBD. when we dropped by the store was undergoing a mini makeover in preparation for the new 2016 range which was just about to land, but looked immaculate with bikes lined up either side of the store, and a couple of stunning custom builds on display.

A large section of the downstairs area was dedicated to the Liv range, which is a standalone brand of Giant that is committed to the female cyclist. The bikes are specifically designed for female riders, and not just smaller versions of the standard bikes. Jaaron explains that about 30% of the stores sales are women specific thanks largely in part to Giant's commitment to the development of the Liv brand.

The day we were there the guys were confirming a shipment of the new 2016 range of bikes, which was pretty exciting. The best thing about the Giant range is they can cater for every type of shape, riding capability, fitness level and budget. Want to go fast on the flat? Get a Propel. Want a climbing beast? Get the new TCR. Want an all-rounder that can do everything? Enter the Defy.

And if you fancy off road adventures more than the bitumen, there's the Anthem, XTC, Trance, Reign, Glory, Talon, Boulder and the ATX! Extensive doesn't even begin to cover it.

And to keep your new Giant in tip-top shape, there is over 100 years of experience in the CYC'd for Bikes workshop. The mechanical area is so popular, there is a decked space just outside that was FULL of bikes waiting to be serviced or maintained, as well as the three in the shop actually being worked on. The team do good work and the popularity of the workshop is evidence of that. There are two types of services which we thought were really well considered.

There is a 'Safety service' and a 'Performance service' which perfectly describe what you are getting. One is to keep your bike running and safe and the other includes all the bells and whistles.

The store will shortly have a GURU bike fit system, the first store in QLD to do so. The GURU system is computer controlled and makes real time adjustments based on rider feedback and is fully automated. The rider never has to stop pedalling or dismount, which is a huge game changer and an addition to the store that will have people flocking from everywhere to have a go.

Cyc'd has even spawned a cycling club. In early 2012 the Cyc'd Cycling Club Inc was formed, and welcomes riders from all around Brissie to enjoy cycling in a social atmosphere. The club is a supporter of Smiling for Smiddy and has raised over $100,000 for cancer research since 2010. In 2011, four of the riders rode from Brisbane to Townsville in 58 hours raising $60,000 in the process.

As well as Giant the store stocks Giro, Oakley, ENVE, Assos, Mavic, and many more big brands.

Step inside this place and you'll be cyc'd for bikes, too...!
