The 59th Jayco Herald Sun Tour is scheduled to commence in October on Wednesday 12th and will finish on Sunday the 16th 2011.
The race consists of international and domestic riders that total 18 teams of 6 riders with 5 management staff.
The race is a five stage event that will begin in Whittlesea and ride through the towns of Ballarat, Geelong, Drysdale, Sorrento and Arthurs Seat, finishing up in Lygon Street for a circuit race.
Stage 1 - Wed 12th October - Whittlesea to Ballarat
Stage 2 - Thur 13th October - Ballarat to Geelong
Europcar Stage 3 - Fri 14th October - Geelong to Drysdale
Searoad Ferries Stage 4 - Sat 15th October - Sorrento to Arthurs Seat
Stage 5 - Sun 16th October - Lygon St, Melbourne - Circuit Race
The Jayco Herald Sun Tour is one of the oldest stage races in the world and has had an abundance of cycling greats take out the event in previous years, such as Stuart O’Grady and Baden Cooke.
This year’s event will expect to have hundreds of thousands of spectators and will have several big names such as Alberto Contador’s support rider and Giro d’Italia stage winner Richie Porte.
After a year of absence due to the UCI Road World Championships in 2010, this year’s event will surely be one not to miss.
