Review of Cervelo S1 Ultegra 2010

Having spent most of my time recently on a full carbon frame I was suspect about going back to aluminum on the Cervelo S1. I imagined it would be like going from Jessica Alba to Helen Mirren.

However I was pleasantly surprised by the Cervelo S1. It simply exploded when I hit the pedal hard, it was amazingly responsive and I didn't even notice it was a non-carbon frame.

According to many of the world’s bicycling magazines and pro riders the Cervelo S1 is the most underrated bike in the world.

My feeling is it's the aluminum frame of the Cervelo S1 that leads to it being underrated. But in terms of price point and build quality I'd have to say it's simply one of the best value for money bikes out there.

It's a  100% pro bike, with victories in Paris-Nice, Critérium International, Liège-Bastogne-Liège, Tour de l’Avénir and many other races.

Sometimes I think people can be blinded by the carbon verses aluminum argument, and often settle for a poor carbon frame rather than the best aluminum frame that is lighter, stronger, stiffer, more responsive and even more comfortable.
