Garmin bike computer

A Garmin bike computer is a small device that mounts onto the handlebars of a bike. It calculates and displays trip information similar to the instruments in the dashboard of a car. Generally, bike computers are used to display information such as speed, cadence, power, etc. However, a Garmin bike computer goes a step ahead and provides insights into your maximal oxygen uptake, recovery, training load focus, nutrition, hydration, etc. It also has safety features such as bike alarm, group messaging, tracking, and incident detection.

At BikeExchange, you can find different models of Garmin bike computers. You also have bundle options where you can buy the bike computer with some sensors like the cadence sensor and speed sensor. Of course, you can choose to purchase the sensors separately, but you can get them at a much more affordable price if you buy the bundle. Be it functionality or price to performance ratio, Garmin bike computers are among the best in the market.

How does the Garmin bike computer work?

The bike computer, also called a head unit, uses an LCD display that shows your courses, training calendar, workout, etc. They also have maps and offer step by step navigation, which means that getting lost is a thing of the past now. The head unit also comes with Bluetooth, and you can connect it with your smartphone to use applications such as Strava.

But, if you want to make full use of the Garmin bike computer, you should pair it with some sensors. Garmin’s bike computers and sensors are technologically advanced than any other brands. For example, instead of using a magnet and a magnet switch, Garmin’s speed sensors use wireless orientation sensors. Because of which it is much simpler to install and use.

The next sensor is the cadence sensor. They are a must for bikers who want to maximise their workout results. They allow bikers to measure the energy output in the form of rotations per minute. They are similar to speed sensors when it comes to functioning, but they time how long the pedal takes to rotate instead of timing the wheels.

Furthermore, Garmin also offers a heart rate sensor. They are primarily in the form of a chest strap. Once you wear them, they detect the electrical signals coming from your heart as it beats. These sensors are connected to the head unit through ANT+. Once these sensors collect the data, it is instantly transmitted to the head unit. The head unit then performs a series of calculations to provide insights from the data.

Now that you are clear about the functionality of the head unit and the sensors, you can choose the product based on your requirement. For example, if you want only the basic functions like navigation, you can choose to go with the head unit. But, if you are looking for some insights about speed and cadence, you can opt for the sensors. Once you have added them to the cart, you can choose the appropriate purchase method. At payment, you can choose from Mastercard, Visa, PayPal, Afterpay, etc. You will be kept up to date through e-mail on all updates from order confirmation to shipping.

How to install a Garmin bike computer?

To install the Garmin bike computer, make use of the mount provided in the box. Place the mount on the bike stem and attach it using the two bands. You can also place the rubber disk under the bike mount to ensure that it stays in place. Next, press down the head unit on the mount and turn it clockwise until it locks in place.

To install the speed sensor, hold it on top of the wheel hub. Next, pull the strap around the wheel hub and attach it to the hook on the sensor. Even if the sensor is tilted, it will not affect the operation. But ensure that the sensor does not contact other parts of the bike while the wheel rotates.

When installing the cadence sensor, select a band size that fits your crank arm securely. The band may be small, but it should be able to stretch across the crank arm. On the non-drive side, place & hold the flat side of the sensor on the inside of the crank arm. Next, pull the band around the crank arm and attach it with the hooks. Ensure that the sensor and the band do not come in contact with other parts of the bike when the wheel rotates.
