Clip On Tri Bars

View:

Clip-On Tri Bars are extensions that attach to your regular handlebar and allow you to rest your elbows on pads and grip the bars in front of you. This position reduces your frontal area and wind resistance, saving you precious time and energy.

Clip-on handlebars come in different shapes, sizes and materials. Some factors to consider when choosing them are:

  • Compatibility: make sure the clip-ons fit your handlebar diameter and do not interfere with your brakes or shifters. Some clip-ons have adjustable clamps or spacers to fit different bars.

  • Adjustability: look for clip-ons that let you adjust the bars and pads' length, width, angle and height to suit your preferences and body geometry. This will help you find a comfortable and efficient position.

  • Weight: carbon clip-ons are lighter than aluminium ones but more expensive. The weight difference is insignificant, so choose based on your budget and personal preference.

  • Design: some clip-ons have a straight or flat shape, while others have a ski-bend or S-bend shape. The latter can offer more wrist clearance and hand positions but may increase drag slightly. Try different shapes before buying to see what feels best for you.

  • Rules: if you plan to race in draft-legal events, check the regulations regarding clip-on handlebars. They must have a bridge between the poles or touch each other; they cannot extend beyond the hoods; they cannot have gears or brakes on them; and they must meet certain height requirements.
